SUDOOR NAKSHATRA -synopsis

Genre : Poetry

SUDOOR NAKSHATRA (The far-off star),

In a distressed winter night

Is drowned each moment

And million centuries of agony

If an earthen lamp

Burns sleeplessly

In the distant star

Even if the deadly hand of night

Tends to wipe out life’s colour

Warmth of the distant flame

Picks up tenderly

A lighted moment of hope.

The first poem of the collection looks like this in a hurried translation, and yes, it is the poem that brings out the poets mind in all its vastness and depth. A firebrand and at the same time too – sensitive poet, Dr. Chowdhury’s many- faceted personality finds adequate expression in her poems. Struggle for emancipation of life from all sorts of bonds, social and individual, is the crying voice of her poetry.

An unusual and stimulating anthology with something important to state on problems and turmoils of Assam.
